Not Just any Old Baked Chicken Wings

Okay, I know what you’re thinking … if you’re not going to talk about deep-fried wings, then I’m not listening! I totally get that!  I mean, who doesn’t love a “good” deep-fried chicken wing?  But let’s be honest, deep frying is a bit of a mission right?  If you don’t have a deep fryer, then it’s a process …  totally worth it but still, a process.  To cook these wings require nothing more than a sheet pan and an oven.  These wings are crispy, full of flavour, delicious and addictive!

Why I Love This Recipe

Although I love deep-fried chicken wings, this version is super simple and super tasty.  It’s actually a nice change from deep-fried. It’s a great appetizer or a great meal!

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • No special equipment is necessary
  • They aren’t deep-fried, so they are slightly healthier
  • You can make a lot all at once

Ingredients

Directions for Baked Wings

Place wings in a large bowl. Add olive oil then toss to coat all wings. Then add the hot sauce and toss to coat again.  Sprinkle 1 tbsp. of the spice blend over the top and give the wings a toss to coat them all.  Add the other tbsp. of the spice blend and give a final toss. Cover the wings and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.

  • Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
  • Remove wings from the fridge and give them a final toss.
  • Line a sheet pan with parchment paper, and place wings on the pan in an even layer.  Don’t overlap or they won’t get crispy.
  • Place in the oven for 50 minutes.  Halfway through baking, use tongs to turn the wings over.
  • Once the wings have finished baking, remove them from the oven.
  • Slide the top oven rack to the next level down from the top of your oven and set the broiler.  Place the wings on the second rack and broil the wings for about 2 to 3 minutes or until they crisp up.  Watch closely while broiling, they can burn very easily*.
  • Serve with Blue Cheese dip (Click here for Blue Cheese Dip Recipe)

Cook’s Notes/Tips

The difference between Extra virgin olive oil and olive oil?

  • Extra virgin olive oil is pure, cold-pressed and unrefined. It is much more flavourful than olive oil and more expensive. It is best used for salads or anything uncooked.
  • Olive oil is a lower grade and has been heated.  Therefore, it’s not nearly as tasty but it’s great for cooking and much less expensive.
  • You don’t have to broil the wings depending on how crispy you want your wings to be.  You can keep them in the oven for another 5 or 10 minutes, but they won’t get as crispy as broiling them.
